Course Overview

As of March 2017, the HSE now stipulates that only those holding a certificate in this course can be counted towards the required number of supervising adults in a child care setting. This means that basic first aid, basic paediatric first aid, emergency first aid and first aid at work certificate holders no longer contribute towards this and these first aiders must update their certification in order to work with children. Course Content
  • Course introduction.
  • Be able to assess an emergency situation and prioritise what action to take.
  • Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally.
  • Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally.
  • Help a baby or child who is having a seizure.
  • Help a baby or child who is choking.
  • Help a baby or child who is bleeding.
  • Help a baby or child who is suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss.
Course Assessment

This course meets Ofsted requirements by complying with the mandatory Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). It also ensures that you meet recommendations underlined by the HSE and provides you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to use what you have learned in a real emergency situation.
